Why not antlers?

I draw deer. A lot of deer. But I don't think I've ever done one with antlers. It seems odd because I really like antlers. They are intially soft and velvety and then angular and strong. I think the soft and velvety ones are more my speed. I like antlers attached to the deer preferrably, unless they have been shed. I visited the Squam Science Center with Jasper and some friends recently where they have 3 lovely gigantic deer. One had already lost one of his antlers. Before this I did not realize deer shed their antlers every year. So I shudder a little less when I see a pair of antlers mounted to a plaque...provided there's nothing attached to them.

Little Red can share, can she not?

I just finished this one. I think, Little Red surely had enough in her basket to share with the wolf. If she'd given him something nice, perhaps a cupcake or two, would he have given her so much trouble? I think not. They could've even been friends. He was a wolf that could talk after all. Probably the darkest one (in color saturation, not in meaning) I think I've done.

My Newest Illustrations

Sometimes I really like scanning in sketches in pencil and colorizing them in Photoshop without even going over them with pen. It has a rougher quality (which sometimes doesn't translate into a nice high-quality print) but there's something about it that I like.

I started a blog!

Hello everyone! I decided to start a blog. I've found I don't update my website very often (www.friendoftheforestart.com), and don't leave any kind of commentary on my illustrations on it. I keep telling other people to start blogs - why wouldn't I start one myself? Now the challenge is maintaining the two at once...
